Texting While Driving

Texting while driving laws generally prohibit the sending or reading of text, email, or other messages on a mobile device while driving a vehicle.  These laws are enacted by counties and municipalities as well as state legislatures.  Other laws prohibit the use of any mobile devices while driving.  In some states, their use is prohibited for newly licensed drivers.  On the other hand, many states exempt certain types of legally licensed radio communications from these laws.  Of course, distracted driving is often the cause of motor vehicle accidents, so even in cases where exceptions are made, care should be taken when using any communications device while driving.
